Dangers of smoking are beggar description. It is so dangerous that it may cause cancer, heart attack, chronic bronchitis and other diseases. One puff of cigarette smoke contains more or less nicotine, methyl alcohol, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, arsenic, benzopyrene and several other acids which are fatal to human beings. Nicotine constricts the size of the blood vessels which impedes the flow of blood and oxygen in the body. In fact, it causes blood pressure and heart attack. Benzopyrene is one of the most powerful cancer-causing agents in animals and human beings. Besides, arsenic is cancer causing. Tobacco tar is also cancer-causing. The tar and the drying effect of cigarette smoke slow down the action of the cilia inside the bronchial tube and eventually destroy them. Carbon monoxide drives oxygen out of the red blood cells. So, the dangers of smoking are immense and we should give it up without further delay if we are used to it.

The smoker inhales an air laden with toxic products that attack the cells lining the walls of the organs of the respiratory system: nose, mouth, throat, trachea, bronchi and lungs.
Tars inhaled via cigarette smoke are deposited in the bronchi and lungs of smokers, causing a significant decrease in breath. Carbon monoxide binds to red blood cells and disrupts the oxygenation of the body, decreasing your resistance to effort and your energy. Irritant substances such as acetone cause inflammation of the bronchi and make you cough.
Cigarette smoke is a direct attack on the respiratory system that explains the occurrence in smokers of different types of diseases:
– Infectious diseases: smokers more frequently have otitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, influenza and pneumonia; this risk is all the higher as their consumption is important.
– Inflammatory diseases: these are mainly chronic bronchitis and emphysema (permanent dilation of the pulmonary alveoli); these diseases are due to the progressive destruction of the bronchi and lungs of smokers through smoking.
– Allergic diseases: asthmatic disease is more common and more serious in smokers; the same is true of hay fever.
– Cancer diseases: cigarette smoke causes cancers throughout the respiratory system: lips, tongue, throat, vocal cords, trachea, bronchi, lungs, etc. The risk of cancer increases with the amount of tobacco smoked and the number of years of smoking, with the number of years being the most important factor
